No simple operation, each wooden chair must be carried onto the Sachuest Point Road beach by a heavy-duty John Deere truck and put into a deep hole dug by a backhoe, leveled and balanced so it lasts through the summer. Some of the chairs are entirely new, while others are repainted and repurposed from prior seasons. The beach season starts officially in Middletown on Saturday, May 29.
