GETTING TO KNOW — ALFREDO A. LORENZO

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (JULY 6, 2023) – Last week, readers met new Middletown Police Probationary Officer Michael Cazzarro. This week, we’re proudly introducing fellow Probationary Police Officer Alfredo Lorenzo. Welcome aboard as one of Middletown’s finest to both gentlemen.

1. Why did you first get interested in becoming a police officer?:

  • From a young age, I knew I  wanted to serve my country in some capacity. I have always admired police officers and thought they had the coolest job in the world. In high school, I completed a ride-along program with my town's Police Department, this is when I started thinking about a career in law enforcement.

2. Did you have someone who inspired you to pursue a career in law enforcement?:

  • Growing up, I had a brother-in-law and a soccer coach that are both police officers. I always found myself admiring them and asking questions about what they did. The interactions with them inspired me to pursue a career in law enforcement.

3. What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?:

  • I truly believe that the most fulfilling part of being a police officer is being able to provide assistance to those who need it the most. Whether it's a small interaction or a big one, knowing that you have made a positive impact on someone's life is truly rewarding. It's all about being there for people when they need you the most and I think that's what makes this job so special.

4. What would you say to someone considering a career in law enforcement?:

  • A career in law enforcement is a rewarding, but it takes a special kind of person to dedicate themselves to such a selfless and honorable profession. As a police officer, you have the opportunity to assist those who are in need and make a positive difference in their lives.

5. What advice would you give to someone who is interacting with a police officer?

  • When interacting with an officer remember that kindness and cooperation make a huge difference, and in the end we are human too.

6. Why is law enforcement a career more young people should consider?

  • Being a part of this profession is truly a special calling.  It's an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others and contribute to the well-being of your community. It's an honor to be able to serve others in this way and be a part of a brotherhood and sisterhood that is dedicated to making the world a better place.

7. What’s one thing that surprised you about being a police officer?

  • I have not been surprised by anything on the job as of now. I am sure as time goes on I will be taken aback by the things we have to do as police officers.

8. Name one thing most people don’t understand or fully appreciate about being in law enforcement?

  • I think it is important for people to understand that the mistakes made by one officer should not reflect on law enforcement as a whole. There are countless exceptional men and women who proudly wear a badge and work tirelessly to make a positive impact in their communities.
