- Held a moment of silence for Jay Peckham, who passed away recently after being so instrumental with many projects across the community and the longtime leader of the town’s Roads & Utilities Advisory Committee. Council President Paul M. Rodrigues said Peckham was an awesome resource, loved Middletown and the ultimate family man. “Jay will be missed,” Rodrigues said.
- Heard from Indian Avenue resident Carol Cummings about her continued concerns about problems with accessibility to Pebbly Beach by the intersection Peckham Avenue, particularly in the event of an emergency.
- Approved license for Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream at 40 Valley Road, the location of a new miniature golf course.
- Okayed a special event permit for Monday Night Music Nights at Second Beach, which are Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 6-9 pm. at the summertime hotspot. Rodrigues said every concert he’s been to has been awesome and family friendly, from the music, fire pits, food trucks and more.
- Received a request from Newport resident Mary Ann Jencks about installing a crosswalk on Sachuest Point Road by Surfer’s End, which will be reviewed by interim Town Engineer Steven Cabral for consideration.
Next meeting: Monday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall.
