MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
MIDDLETOWN TOWN COUNCIL
When: Monday night.
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road.
Absent: None.
Of note:
- Held a moment of silence for retired Middletown Police Major Terry Hazel, who passed away last week. Council President Paul M. Rodrigues said Hazel gave countless hours to the town and its residents and complimented his kind, warm nature to everyone.
- Welcomed incoming Scott McLeish as the new deputy director of public works for the town, who has more than 30 years of service to Middletown. Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown said McLeish’s promotion was a welcomed and deserved one and his future work on all issues — with a focus on stormwater — would be welcome.
- Voted unanimously to re-form a subcommittee to review short-term rentals in Middletown at the request of Councilor Barbara A. VonVillas. VonVillas, council Vice President Thomas Welch and Councilor Peter Connerton were named to the group. Rodrigues and Councilor Dennis Turano recused themselves from the matter, citing potential conflicts.
- Heard continued concerns from Easton Pointers about proposed sidewalks on Purgatory Road, with council members saying they’d like to continue to look into the matter.
Next meeting: Monday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 pm in Town Hall.
