MIDDLETOWN POLICE SEEKING INPUT, FEEDBACK
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (JANUARY 30, 2024) – One of the keys to improving any organization is soliciting constructive feedback and input from those you serve.
The Middletown Police Department is definitely no different.
Police Chief Anthony M. Pesare recently sent out a letter, asking members of the Middletown community to participate in an independent survey about the Police Department run through the Criminal Justice Program at Salve Regina University.
The survey should take no more than a few minutes to complete and touches on everything from interactions with the Police Department to the overall safety of the community — and everything in between.
A number of copies of the survey with self addressed envelopes were mailed last week to Middletown residents. Everyone can participate by scanning the attached QR code and filling out the survey online. The last day surveys can be submitted is April 2.
“The Middletown Police Department greatly appreciates your assistance in completing this survey,” Pesare said. “We are your Police Department and we want you to have confidence in the way we operate and to be pleased with the level of service we provide.”
Under Pesare’s leadership, Middletown Police work hard to serve every resident, businessperson and visitor fairly and equitably.
As a Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accredited department, Middletown Police have a strict set of independent standards it must comply.
According to the CALEA website, Middletown is one of 10 municipal departments in Rhode Island that currently are accredited by CALEA. None of the others are located in Newport County.
One of the criteria to maintain accreditation is soliciting public independently on all aspects of police performance.
As part of the program, Pesare said all of the surveys will be returned to Salve’s Criminal Justice Program. There, graduate students will assembly the results and compile a report for Middletown Police. The results will also be shared with the entire community for transparency.
The last time a complete survey was completed through Salve was October 2019.
Pesare said such input goes a long way with his Police Department to help note where things are working well — and where extra emphasis might be necessary.
“We would greatly appreciate your participation and ask that you complete the entire survey to aid in our efforts of data collection as well as send back your survey by April 2 if you are participating in the mail-survey option,” Pesare said.
