GETTING READY FOR SUMMER SUN & FAMILY FUN
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (MAY 13, 2024) – Summer 2024 is almost here.
In recent weeks, town and beach staff are continuing to work hard to get Second and Third beaches ready for opening over the Memorial Day weekend.
Will Cronin said he and his staff are ready to make the summer one of the best yet, with anticipation high for good weather, nice surf and a family-friendly atmosphere. Cronin oversees beach operations as part of his duties with the town.
Importantly, Cronin said the bevy of rocks that washed up over the winter in front of Paths 1 and 2 are largely gone, thanks to the hard work of the town’s Public Works team. The rocks were relocated used to help shore up and harden dunes that were affected by erosion as a result of winter storms.
“Every season, there’s prep that goes into making our beaches among the best anywhere,” Cronin said. “This year, public works went above and beyond for us and the beaches look outstanding already and they continue to do everything to get the beaches where our residents and visitors expect. We’re lucky that we have such a dedicated team here in Middletown.”
Seasonal parking passes have been on sale for weeks at https://mdl.town/BeachStickers online. Order your’s today and it will be mailed quickly.
In-person sticker sales begin on Saturday and Sunday from 8 am-4 pm in the Second Beach main lot, 315 Sachuest Point Road. Signs will direct customers to the area and the sales will be both days rain or shine. Additional in-person dates are planned starting May 20 through the beginning of the beach season on May 25.

For all things Middletown beaches, Cronin asked people visit https://mdl.town/BeachBasics online. The page includes everything from hours, daily parking rates and information about vendors to a surf report, links to beach cameras, a satisfaction survey and more.
Cronin also reminded everyone that as of May 1, dogs are only allowed at the beaches on leashed from 5-7:45 am daily through Sept. 30.
The popular Middletown Summer Concert Series is in the works for every Monday evening in August at Second Beach. Cronin said the lineups are coming together and will be widely advertised once everything is solidified.
“Everyone looks forward to the summer here, no one more than me,” Cronin said. “To see our residents and guests from around the world enjoying our beaches and making memories with every visit is why I do what I do. Beach season is the best.”
