The #MiddletownRI Town Council and audience at a meeting Monday night offered appreciation and applause for Fire Battalion Chief Brian DeFreitas, who was named the “2024 EMS Coordinator of the Year." Thanks to DeFreitas and all our emergency responders.

Of note:
- Saluted Middletown Fire Battalion Chief Brian DeFreitas for being named the “2024 EMS Coordinator of the Year” by the Rhode Island Department of Health. To Lous standing applause from his co-workers, friends, family and the entire audience, DeFreitas thanked everyone for their support. Council President Paul Rodrigues and Vice President Thomas Welch III gave DeFreitas a town tile, commendation and other gifts as a show of appreciation.
- Forwarded a petition from a group of Bliss Mine Road residents to install speed tables on their road to the Middletown Police Department for consideration and review. Residents said there are homes and multiple other uses on the road and they’d appreciate anything that could be done to help slow down traffic and reduce the likelihood of an accident.
- Scheduled an Oct. 7 public hearing for a liquor license for Newport Pickle at 105 Chases Lane, the pickleball facility planned for the old movie theater by Middletown Plaza anchored by Home Depot.
- Approved budget adjustments recommended by Finance Director Marc Tanguay to make sure the through the town’s books were correct and transparent. Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown commended Tanguay, his staff and town department heads for their efforts to make the accounting system accelerated to provide the council and community more timely financial information. “This is a testament to Marc and his team along with the department heads,” Brown said. “We are months ahead of where we are with this.”
