TAX SAVINGS MAILER ON THE WAY
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (DECEMBER 18, 2024) – The Town of Middletown is mailing forms this week to potentially save residents on their Fiscal 2026 tax bills.
The packet will include a “Residency Verification” sheet along with a separate application for the 2025 Tiered Residential Tax Program. The paperwork will arrive in an official Town of Middletown envelope and be postmarked.
Tax Assessor George Durgin encouraged everyone to fill out the paperwork and return it to his office in Town Hall. Applications are also being accepted at https://mdl.town/TRTP online.
The rules governing the Tiered Residential Tax Program require residents reapply every three years for reapproval.
The deadline to submit the paperwork to Town Hall or online is March 15.
Anyone with questions is asked to visit https://mdl.town/TRTP, drop into Durgin’s first-floor office during normal business hours or call 401-847-7300 for assistance.
“We’re here to help and want to make sure everyone is comfortable and clear about the Tiered Residential Tax Program,” Durgin said. “We have a lot of information on our website about it, but we’re always here to help answer any questions and provide assistance whenever we can.”
The Town Council adopted the Tiered Residential Tax Program — or TRTP — in late 2021 as a way to help make Middletown more affordable for full-time residents.
Since then, thousands of Middletown homeowners have taken advantage of the program, saving substantial sums of money in most cases. To be eligible, homeowners must be registered voters.
Durgin said the reason for the mailer was to make sure that every homeowner was aware of the TRTP. All told, he said there were about 4,500 eligible properties in Middletown.
“Personally, I applaud the council and their foresight with this program,” Durgin said. “It’s saved people a lot of money and it’s been really well received.”
