The #MiddletownRI Town Council got a refresher course in ethics from a state attorney, conditionally approved another off-season sauna and other moves Monday night in Town Hall.
MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
MIDDLETOWN TOWN COUNCIL
When: Monday evening, Feb. 3, 2025.
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road.
Absent: None.
Of Note:
- Hosted an ethics training session with local leaders and volunteers from members of town boards and commissions with Lynne Radiches of the state Ethics Commission. As general advice, Radiches said if there’s any question about whether to participate in a matter, it makes sense to get an advisory opinion from the ethics board or simply recuse out of caution.
- Granted unanimous conditional approval to Finn Woodworking and Design for a facility use permit for a mobile sauna in the Third Beach parking lot on an occasional basis through April 20. Project sponsor Elena Soini said the sauna would hopefully be open at least once a week depending on weather and not aimed at walk-in customers, but those who booked online ahead of time. She said the sauna would not leave a lasting impression on the beach, be self contained and carry out whatever was carried in.
- Expected to receive a draft ordinance for Green and Complete Streets, at the group’s next meeting, which would likely be referred to the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Planning Board for consideration. Councilor Charlie Roberts asked his colleagues to make sure they read the update because it was important to help get everyone from point A to point B safely in Middletown.
- Awarded a $47,880 contract to Crossman Engineering to assist with the preparation of a Harbor Management Plan. Town officials said the Beach Commission would play a noteworthy role in the effort, with money for the plan coming from the town’s Parks & Recreation Fund.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025 at 6:30 pm in Town Hall.
