TAX SAVINGS MAILER ON THE WAY
MIDDLETOWN, RI (FEBRUARY 18, 2025) – A second round of forms will be mailed this week to potentially save residents on their Fiscal 2026 tax bills.
The packet includes a “Residency Verification” sheet along with a separate application for the 2025 Tiered Residential Tax Program (TRTP). The paperwork will arrive in an official Town of Middletown envelope and be postmarked.
The town sent out a similar package of information late last year to get as many people enrolled in the TRTP as possible.
Tax Assessor George Durgin said the town was mailing a second round of TRTP paperwork to make sure everyone was aware and informed about the program.
He said the thousands of households that have already submitted the paperwork do not need to do so again by the March 15 deadline.
Applications are also being accepted at https://mdl.town/TRTP online.
“We got a really good response to our first mailer,” Durgin said. “We’re doing a second mailer to make sure that everyone who’s eligible (for the TRTP) applies. There are significant savings for anyone who’s eligible.”
The rules governing the Tiered Residential Tax Program require residents reapply every three years for reapproval.

The TRTP was approved by the Town Council in late 2021 to help make Middletown more affordable for full-time residents.
Since then, thousands of homeowners have taken advantage, saving substantial sums of money in most cases. To be eligible, homeowners must be registered voters. Durgin said there are about 4,500 eligible properties in Middletown.
“I can’t tell you how good it feels every time we approve one of these,” Durgin said. “It saves our residents money and me and my staff have seen what it truly means to people. That’s why we’re here, to help our residents.”
