It might have been one of the #MiddletownRI Town Council's faster moving meetings recently, but that doesn't mean it was any less impactful. Check out a briefing here about some of the action from Monday night in Town Hall.

MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
MIDDLETOWN TOWN COUNCIL
When: Monday evening, March 17, 2025
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road
Absent: None
Of Note:
- Received a briefing about ongoing work with the City of Newport, Town of Portsmouth, Naval Station Newport and others for a regional hazard mitigation plan. The council unanimously approved a resolution to send the draft plan to the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency and Federal Emergency Management Agency for review. To see the draft plan, visit https://mdl.town/Hazard for more.
- Forwarded recommended changes to the town’s zoning ordinances that would allow multi-family development in dense R-10 and R-20 zoning districts to the Planning Board for review. A resident and council President Paul M. Rodrigues said they had concerns with the concept and the council agreed it made sense for the Planning Board to take another look.
- Heard a request from Councilor Dennis Turano to support Middletown Clean and other cleanups across the community. Turano said he would work on organizing and publicizing several cleanups in coming weeks, with the town offering gloves, bags, pickers and other materials to help. For more, go to https://mdl.town/Clean online.
- Awarded a three-year contract for painting services at the beaches, the Second Beach campground and related entities to StrateGic Solution Team LLC.
- Signed off on a special event permit from the Middletown Outreach Department for the Middletown Annual Egg Hunt on April 12 at 10 am from the Wyatt Road soccer complex.
- Okayed a special event permit from the Aquidneck Community Table for the Saturday Farmer’s Market at 110 Enterprise Center between May 3-Oct. 26 at 9 am-noon.
