LANDON RESENDES HONORED FOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

MIDDLETOWN, RI (JUNE 9, 2025) – Landon Resendes was honored by the Town Council for going above and beyond recently.

Whether it was his involvement in student government, The Wave newspaper, his 4.14 grade point average or helping patrons at the Middletown Senior Center with technology and more, local leaders said the list of accomplishments for the graduating Middletown High senior were impressive.

Accepted into 13 different colleges, Landon has chosen to attend Harvard University in Boston on a full-ride scholarship this fall.

In addition to a commendation from the council, Landon received a clock made of a town tile from local leaders as well as standing applause from those at a recent meeting in Town Hall.

“I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to the Town Council for this proclamation,” Landon said. “It’s truly an honor to be recognized by the community that has shaped me into the person I am today.”

Landon’s hard work and accomplishments haven’t gone unnoticed, even before the commendation.

He’s been featured everywhere from the “Middletown Today” newsletter to NBC 10 News, The Providence Journal, the Middletown Rotary Club and more.

Landon was also the first student representative to the School Committee in years, bringing a student perspective first hand to meetings in an unbiased, straightforward manner.

Thanking a number of people for their support and belief along the way, Landon said ultimately his family played a huge role in making him who he is today.

“I have to give a shout out to someone has been with me every step of the way, my mom,” Landon said. “She’s raised not one, but two Harvard boys and if there was a proclamation for Middletown’s most impactful parent, I’m sure we’d all be back here real soon. Mom, thank you for your love, your strength and unwavering belief in me.”

As he read from a list of Landon’s accomplishments, council President Paul M. Rodrigues couldn’t help but be impressed by his fellow MHS alum.

In recent months, the council has worked hard to provide heartfelt recognition to town staff who were being promoted — like Police Chief Jason Ryan and Fire Chief Robert McCall — as well as everyday residents who’ve made a positive difference in their community.

Among those include beloved basketball coach Randy Butler and Ronald Kobayashi, who patrols Oliphant Lane in the morning, gathering litter and waving hello to passing vehicles. If you know someone who deserves such kudos, visit https://mdl.town/Marvelous online and complete a nomination form.

“When you hear what a young man like this has accomplished and you can only envision and think about where he’s going to go and what he’s going to accomplish, it’s someone like yourself that makes Middletown really, really proud of its community and its students and the education we provide,” Rodrigues said. “You’ve taken it to a whole different level with your abilities. We wish you the best and bright things in the future.”

In closing, Landon reminded everyone that he’s a product of Middletown and it would always be home.

“This recognition may bear my name today, but it belongs really to all of you,” Landon said. “To the teachers, mentors, family and friends who believed in me and what young people can accomplish when they’re trusted and encouraged and heard.”
