MIDDLETOWN HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR EARNS PRESTIGIOUS RECOGNITION
MIDDLETOWN, RI (SEPTEMBER 15, 2025) – Middletown High School Senior Chloe Tysor was named a “Commended Student” in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Officials at the Valley Road school said they were notified Chloe earned the distinction for her outstanding efforts with the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test.
The 17-year-old joins approximately 34,000 other commended students across the country to achieve the honor.
“I’m so grateful to the teachers and staff who have contributed to my educational journey,” Chloe said. “Middletown has given me and so many other students the resources we need to achieve great things.”
Middletown High Principal Donna Sweet said there was no one more deserving of the recognition.
“Chloe works hard at everything she does and puts in maximum effort,” Sweet said. “She is an articulate and well versed student. I have appreciated her voice for the students and her leadership as the Student Representative to School Committee and as a student advisor to the Rhode Island Department of Education.”
The daughter of Jenn Mulcahey and Morgan Tysor, Chloe is a familiar face not only at Middletown High, but across the community. She’s the older sister of MHS freshman Lucy Tysor and Gaudet Middle School sixth grader William Tysor.
In addition to serving as the president of the entire student body at MHS, she lifeguards and works as a swim instructor at the Newport County YMCA.
Chloe also volunteers with the Special Olympics, was a youth program intern with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, youth health ambassador for the Rhode Island Department of Health and a civics liaison to the Rhode Island Secretary of State.
Sweet said Chloe was also named the October “Rotary Student of the Month” and is a member of the school’s pre-engineering career pathways program.
When she leaves MHS, Sweet said Chloe intends to pursue biomedical engineering in college.
“Like so many of the students here at MHS, Chloe drives me and our staff to do better each day,” Sweet said. “She takes her work and obligations very seriously and there’s no question she’s an inspiration to us all.”
