For a relatively short meeting Monday night, the #MiddletownRI Town Council took up several important issues including the status of several road projects across the community.
MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
MIDDLETOWN TOWN COUNCIL
When: Monday night, Dec. 1, 2025
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road
Absent: Chris Logan
Of Note:
- Scheduled a Jan. 20 discussion about an ordinance related to the disposal of horse waste after a vote to reconsider the matter was approved unanimously by the council. A new ordinance was approved at the council’s last meeting requiring horses to wear waste bags while walking on town streets, parks and related areas, an item that raised concerns among some in horse riding community.
- Learned paving work on Miantonomi Avenue hill would likely be in the spring while under drains are tested and working properly over the winter months. During work in the area this year, town officials have said water has been found pumping under the road, issues they said needed to be addressed before the project was completed.
- Heard that paving of Mitchells Lane between East Main Road and Wyatt Road was expected in the spring due to the declining condition of the road. Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown said the town waited as long as possible to hold off on the work while heavy construction on Newport National Golf Club was largely complete.
- Got an update that sidewalk work was expected on Purgatory Road to help make the area more walkable and accessible to the public. Brown said the sidewalk work would not interfere with the Summer 2026 beach season.
