MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
Middletown Town Council
When: Tuesday night.
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road.
Absent: None.
Of note, the council:
- Got a briefing from Finance Director Marc Tanguay about the schedule to determine the use of American Rescue Plan Act money, federal funds intended to help the community recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. After the council approved the timeline, the next step will be for the Town to advertise the funding, which is expected to continue through mid-October. “I think we can come up with a lot of good uses,” council President Paul M. Rodrigues said in response.
- Heard an update from Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown about discussion of combining the Town and school maintenance, information technology and accounting departments. Brown said the talks were ongoing with each and things were in the discussion and investigation phase at this point.
- Awarded safety evaluation contracts for Boulevard between West Main Road and Kay Boulevard to PARE Corp. to analyze the road and make recommendations. The item was on the docket from Councilman Christopher Logan.
- Learned that Brown and Tanguay will look at all the local fees the Town has control over and make recommendations on any potential changes. The item was on the docket at the request of Councilman Dennis Turano.
- Forwarded a proposal to the town’s Open Space & Fields Committee from resident Thomas O’Neill about ways to better connect the entire Town by bike and foot with a proposed fishing pier on Burma Road just north of Greene Lane.
Next meeting: Monday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. from Town Hall.
