MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
Middletown Town Council
When: Monday night.
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road.
Absent: None.
Of note, the council:
- Agreed to a behind-the-scenes tour on an upcoming Saturday of each of the community’s four schools with the school Building Committee. Building Committee Co-Chairman Charlie Roberts said the group was working hard to come up with a plan to upgrade the existing school buildings. Council Vice President Thomas Welch III said he’s personally toured almost all the schools and seeing them firsthand was very informative. “Charlie is doing an awesome job…” Welch said. “He’s very passionate.”
- Heard plans to rework the former Middletown Grange building at 499 East Main Road into an unspecified restaurant and offices for J2 Construct construction firm, which owns the property.
- Unanimously approved new regulations governing marijuana uses, which prohibit pot shops in any area of Town. Marijuana cultivation centers and testing facilities were also prohibited under the rules in all zoning districts. Patient and caregiver cultivation by properly licensed individuals would not be impacted by the new rules.
- Received a proposed one-year rollover for teachers’ assistants for the School Department, which includes a 1 percent wage hike for all employees. The item is expected to be considered for approval at the council’s next meeting on Oct. 18.
Next meeting: Monday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. from Town Hall.
