MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS MIDDLETOWN TOWN COUNCIL

Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road.

Of note:

• Held a lengthy discussion about the future of Linden Park at 141 West Main Road, which is being considered for a revamped park including four pickleball courts (See https:// mdl.town/Pickleball for more details), affordable housing or keeping it as is. A change order was approved for further consultant study of affordable housing at Linden Park, the former Peckham School or Oliphant administration building properties. The council also gave the go ahead for the Town to apply for state recreational grant money, which included the improvements to Linden Park. The pickleball item is expected to come back before the council at its Jan, 17, 2022 session.

• Asked Town staff to do additional review of a proposed tiered residential tax rate for non- owner occupied houses, saying it seemed like there were instances where certain exemptions might be in order. The second public hearing on the proposal is slated for the council’s next meeting on Dec. 20.

• Received a rebuttal from attorney Allyson Quay of a prior report on the tax assessment for 34-38 Warren Ave., property owned by Councilwoman Terri Flynn. On behalf of her clients, Quay said the report was `illed with inaccuracies and misstatements and it was an unnecessary and a waste of taxpayer dollars.
