MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (APRIL 16, 2021) – Looking for the latest news from around Middletown without even lifting a finger?
Try Notify Me, one of the new services offered through the town’s website MiddletownRI.com for free.
By signing up at https://mdl.town/NotifyMe, users can get all the news and updates from the town in their email inbox or via text message on their cellular phone.
“When we launched the new website, one of the goals was to keep people more informed and to make Middletown even more transparent,” Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown said. “Notify Me is just one of the exciting tools we’ve never had before to help keep everyone up to speed about what’s happening in town.”
The way Notify Me works, users visit the https://mdl.town/NotifyMe link online. There, they’ll enter their email address or cellular phone number in the lines provided, depending on preference.
Then, they’ll be asked what items they’d like to get regular updates on: “Navy News,” “SeeClickFix,” “Town News and Updates” and the “Town Calendar.”
Once all that information is entered and submitted to the system, the updates will be sent out automatically as they become available.
Updates can include anything from news with the Town Council and various local boards to feature stories about good work happening with the schools, beaches or finance office. The town also relies heavily on simple, straightforward graphics to spread the word about upcoming road work, trash collection, COVID-19 and litter cleanups, among countless other subjects.
In general, the town tries to send out at least one update weekdays, but sometimes can do as many as six or seven depending on what’s happening and the time of year.
Notify Me is just one new tool offered at MiddletownRI.com as part of the town’s new website that went live in late March. To see some of the other offerings, visit https://www.middletownri.com/557/Your-MiddletownRIcom online.
“The goal of all this outreach is to help keep residents, businesspeople and visitors better informed about what’s happening in Middletown,” Public Affairs Officer Matt Sheley said. “Much of the news and information we’re posting isn’t found anywhere else and it’s intended to show the complete picture of what a great place Middletown is to live, work and play.”
