To check out the proposed budget in its entirety, visit https://mdl.town/FY2022ProposedBudget online. If you’re only looking for a high-level overview, check out https://mdl.town/HighLevel online for a brief review of the proposed numbers by Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown.

Both documents and so much more about the proposed budget are available at “Middletown Shares” online. This includes about a dozen videos where department heads explain their proposed budgets, why the figures were necessary and how residents and businesspeople were expected to benefit.

The site is accessible through the main page of the town’s website at MiddletownRI.com or visiting https://mdl.town/Shares directly.

If the proposed budget is approved by the council, the new proposed residential tax rate is expected to be $12.48 per $1,000 of assessed property value. On the commercial side, the proposed tax rate is expected to be $16.81 per $1,000 of assessed value.

The council is scheduled to adopt the proposed budget on May 26 following its second public hearing. However, the town technically has until June 30 to finalize its numbers for the upcoming 2021-2022 fiscal year, which begins on July 1.
