MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
Middletown Town Council
When: Tuesday night.
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road.
Absent: None.
Of note, the council:
- Hit pause on proposed amendments to the Town’s zoning codes impacting the Atlantic Beach district in lower Aquidneck Avenue until Sept. 20. Some on the council said they were concerned a handful of businesspeople were unaware of the proposal and wanted to make sure everyone had an opportunity to chime in on the recommended changes before any action was taken.
- Held interviews with applicants for four vacancies to the town’s Zoning Board of Review. Candidates included Lawrence Frank, Gregory M. Huet, Stephen Huttler, Rick Lombardi, Judith Rosenthal, Christopher Sousa and Adam Souza. The council is expected to make appointments for the positions on July 19. “It’s nice to see people applying and I’d like to thank all the candidates for coming in,” council President Paul M. Rodrigues said.
- Approved a special event permit for the Middletown High School Class of 2020 one-year reunion at Third Beach including a pizza dinner and yard games. The class asked for the get together because COVID-19 cut into such celebrations last year. “Good luck, be safe and have fun,” Rodrigues said.
Next meeting: Monday, July 19 at 6 p.m. in Town Hall.
