Students and staff at Gaudet Middle School and Gaudet Learning Academy come together recently for a "Walk-To-Feed-A-Friend" walkathon and food drive to assist those less fortunate in #Middletown.
THANKSGIVING IS A TIME TO HELP OTHERS
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (NOVEMBER 15, 2024) – Students and staff at Gaudet Middle School and Gaudet Learning Academy are giving to those in need.
Recently, the physical education staff sponsored the annual “Walk-To-Feed-A-Friend” walkathon, where dozens of nonperishables, personal care items and money were collected to help.
One of the event organizers, Physical Education & Health Teacher Jennifer Cavallaro, said every year, the outpouring of support from the Gaudet community never ceases to amaze her.
She said enough items were gathered to make 13 baskets to help provide a nice Thanksgiving holiday for those less fortunate in Middletown.
“We’ve done this event for awhile now and it gets bigger and better every year,” Physical Education & Health Teacher Lori Hanlon added. “It’s always a great success and it’s a wonderful lesson for our students about spreading kindness and help to others in need.”

Complimenting both schools for their generosity and positive spirits, the Physical Education Department gave special thanks to Spanish teacher Michael Goodreau and his students for making a huge banner advertising the event.
They also praised Debra Danis and her students for making posters and Tina Murphy Reynolds and her classes for putting together the beautiful baskets. And without Nicole Sams and the Gaudet Parent Teacher Group, physical education staff said the walkathon wouldn’t be close to the same success.
The baskets will be given out just before Thanksgiving, Cavallaro said.
“The PE staff want to thank the who Gaudet and Gaudet Learning Academy family for coming together and helping brighten the holidays for so many others,” Cavallaro said, speaking for everyone in the department. “People talk about the importance of Thanksgiving and what it really means and it’s definitely something that’s real here at Gaudet and with the Learning Academy.”
