The #MiddletownRI Town Council covers quite a bit of ground at its meeting Monday night, including adding a seventh member to the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, hearing a status report on the new library project and more.
MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
MIDDLETOWN TOWN COUNCIL
When: Monday night, May 5, 2025
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road
Absent: None
Of Note:
- Got an update about the status of the library renovation project from Shared Facilities Director Ed Collins, who said everything is moving along as expected. Collins said meetings with Downes Construction had gone well and details of the effort were coming together. “There’s a lot of moving parts,” Collins said.
- Asked Town Solicitor Peter Regan to look into the process for naming the new Grade 2-5 Elementary School at the building currently home to Middletown High School at 130 Valley Road. The recommended name from the School Committee is the “Valley Elementary School.” Council President Paul M. Rodrigues said renaming the facility would be a cool opportunity for a naming contest.
- Approved a resolution for Small Cities Community Development Block Grant projects to support low- and moderate-income housing, employment opportunities and community facilities.
- Voted to advertise for a new seventh member for the town’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
Next Meeting: Monday, May 19, 2025
