ADELINE ROSE HONORED FOR SERVICE
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (JUNE 25, 2025) – Longtime Middletown Board of Canvassers member Adeline C. Rose was honored during a recent Town Council meeting for her twenty-four years of dedicated and successful service to the community.
Serving since 2001, Adeline held numerous roles on the Board of Canvassers over the years, including Chair from 2001 to 2007, Vice Chair from 2019 to 2024, and member for the remainder of her tenure, including the current year.
The Board of Canvassers is a volunteer group of Middletown residents charged with ensuring all elections and election-related matters in town are conducted in accordance with local and state election laws.
At the beginning of the June 16 meeting, Town Council President Paul M. Rodrigues invited Adeline to the podium to receive an official citation and a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her contributions. The citation, signed by all seven council members, acknowledged her commitment to the electoral process and the trust she helped build with voters over the years.
“She was very dedicated and helped a great amount with recruiting election workers,” Town Clerk Wendy W. Marshall said. “She took her responsibilities seriously and was a great pleasure to work with.”
During the brief ceremony, Adeline was warmly received by councilors, staff, and attendees. Her remarks were both gracious and lighthearted.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of being on this board, meeting and making new friends,” Adeline said. “I’m only a phone call away. If I can volunteer, I’m here.”
Council President Rodrigues responded with a smile, “We wanted to give you this citation and a nice little parting gift. We’ll certainly also consider you coming out of retirement, and that one call away.”
In a moment of laughter and affection, Adeline received the bouquet and quipped, “A Rose for a Rose!” before adding with a smile, “I majored in public speaking, I could go on all night!” As she returned to her seat, she was met with standing applause.
A fixture in local government for over two decades, Adeline has helped oversee countless elections and ensure the integrity of the process in Middletown. She is widely recognized for her calm leadership, institutional knowledge, and enthusiastic support of civic engagement.
