MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
MIDDLETOWN TOWN COUNCIL
When: Monday night, Oct. 6, 2025
Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road
Absent: Dennis Turano
Of Note:
- Learned work to install new LED lights across the community was going very well, according to Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown. To date, more than 800 new streetlights have been replaced and the project continues across town to save the community money, offer better lighting and help the environment.
- Welcomed everyone to an Oct. 27 wall-breaking ceremony to mark the official start of work on the new Middletown Public Library at 11 am at 110 Enterprise Center. Ahlborg Construction Corp. was named as construction manager for the library renovation, with the costs covered through bond proceeds. Local leaders said the project remains “on time and on budget,” with the new building expected to be opened in August 2026.
- Held the first public hearing on amendments to the town’s ordinances related to multifamily structures in an attempt to grow the amount of housing stock in the community. To view the proposed amendments, visit https://www.middletownri.gov/DocumentCenter/View/21202/Multifamily-Ordinance-Proposal online. The hearing remained opened and was expected to be considered again on Oct. 20.
- Contributed $1,000 to the “Kick For Keydell” soccer day and waived all associated fees, an event Councilor Charlie Roberts said was expected to continue annually.
- Considered a proposal from the Beach Commission to require horses walking on local roads and the beaches to wear waste collection bags so their feces doesn’t go on the road and shoreline to be cleaned up later. Town Solicitor Peter B. Regan was asked to prepare a proposed ordinance for the council’s consideration at the Oct. 20 session.
Next Meeting: Monday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 pm in Town Hall.
