MIDDLETOWN MEETING MATTERS
Middletown Town Council

Where: Middletown Town Hall, 350 East Main Road.

Of note:
- Approved multiple changes to the Town’s ordinances to clean up issues identified by a council subcommittee that reviewed short-term rentals over the past several months. Town officials said the goal of the changes was to simplify the process and make it easier for operators, renters, neighbors and the Town to co-exist.
- Revived “Middletown Stonewall Recognition Day,” which historically had been on the Monday before Thanksgiving, or Nov. 22. The move came at the request of the Middletown Historical Society, which stress the importance of stonewalls to the history of the community.
- Received a report from attorney Maria F. Deaton, who reviewed the tax assessment for 34-38 Warren Ave., property owned by Councilwoman Terri Flynn. According to Deaton, there was nothing criminal in connection with the matter and there’s administrative items that need to be reviewed at Town Hall.
- Appointed Mark Donahue to the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission; John Ceglarski, Kathleen Silveira and Jay Bogosian to the Beach Commission; Sarah Mullen to the Library Board of Trustees; Allan R. Gray, Sara Poirier and Edward F. Rizy to the Open Space & Fields Committee and Stephen Huttler to the Zoning Board of Review.
